EXUMA, BAHAMAS – Behind some of the best beaches and waters in the world, breathtaking views  and great adventures, there are some day-to-day issues for the people living on and visiting Staniel Cay.

The first is reliable power.

As the local government representative Stephen Miller says he’s hoping BPL will soon hear their cries for better – more reliable service.

Home and business owners shared stories of the losing revenue and appliances or trying to explain to a guest paying thousands in room nights why they are without power.

Then, there’s the waste issue, with yachts bringing as many as 40 bags of trash – at a time –  to the dump site.

You need only look at the island’s only bridge to see how bad it is  – the north to south connector bridge is already closed to heavy equipment with golf carts now restricted to one lane traffic only.

Government has indicated a costly bridge repair this fiscal period.

There’s also the promise of some much needed airport repairs.

Miller, like with many who live and visit here, is hopeful that this time around the promises turn into action.
