Ex-Haitian Lawmaker Arrested Days After Registering Political Party

HAITI – Haitian police have arrested former lawmaker Arnel Bélizaire in the suburb of Pétion-Ville, just days after he registered a new political party.

Authorities say he faces charges including financing terrorism, criminal association and conspiracy against state security.

The arrest comes as Haiti continues to grapple with a worsening security crisis, with armed gangs controlling large parts of the capital.

Bélizaire, who has a history of legal troubles, was also sanctioned by the United States last year over corruption allegations.
