NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A surprising turn of events Saturday evening, billows of smoke rising into the air could be seen as far west as the Tonique Williams Darling Highway.

The source? That shantytown in Kool Acres is set to be demolished Monday morning.

Firefighters called to the scene late afternoon just off of Joe Farrington Road where they met a raging blaze.

Just that morning officials were on the ground. It was later that afternoon around 4pm they got the call.

Drone footage showed extensive damage as the blaze covered much of the area. The blaze burned late into the night after our team left the area.

Authorities say they are still seeking the cause of the fire.

Now I was in this same shantytown just days ago speaking to residents who were preparing to leave.

A source within the shantytown told Our News that most if not all the residents would have already left the area before the blaze started; Delancy confrimed this.
