FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA – Twenty-nine-year-old Racquel Forbes is crushing it at Bahama Rock as the first certified female dragline operator in the Caribbean.

Forbes says she actually sees herself as a born operator and learning to operate the heavy machinery came fairly quickly.

Forbes also works maintenance on the heavy machinery which includes welding and all facets to keep everything rolling smoothly.

And, what exactly does a day in the life of a dragline operator look like? The dragline worker says everyday is different. “There is no day that is going to be absolutely the same.” But, she emphasised that despite the ever-changing environment, safety always comes first.

As the first certified female dragline operator, she has this advice for other young women that may consider entering a traditionally male dominated field: “Life is what you make it. Your own personal life is like a business, and only you can manage it.”
