NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Our News can confirm that the country’s 35th homicide victim is former FNM politician Don Saunders.

The former Tall Pines representative was shot and killed in what is being described as a “robbery gone bad”.

Police have stated that Saunders was one a few patrons sitting outside an establishment on Douglas Road in the Gambier Village area when two masked gunmen approached them, demanding money. This caused a panic among the patrons, who scrambled to find safety. During the chaos, the assailants fired their weapons, resulting in the former politician being hit in the upper torso. Saunders was pronounced dead on scene.

It was a tearful scene as family members, loved ones and colleagues gathered to mourn the life of Don Saunders.

Saunders’s son, Donald Saunders Jr. was slated to participate in this year’s CARIFTA Open Water event. The Bahamas Aquatics Federation expressed their condolences for the loss of the “proud swim parent”.
