NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Government High School’s phones have been ringing off the hook, thanks to a viral Facebook post praising the eggs from their agricultural program.

MacNeil Parris has been a teacher at Government High for the past 25 years, and the coordinator of their Agricultural Department since 2013. Last year, the department saw a new addition in their animal husbandry program.

In the midst of one of the largest bird flu outbreaks in United States history, egg prices are skyrocketing, and many residents have turned to the program at Government High to buy their eggs.

Parris says thanks to his and the students’ tender care of their 50 plus chickens, almost all of them produce about an egg a day. But even with that many eggs, Parris says he has had to put some limitations in place.

Parris also works to teach the agricultural economics so they can understand the marketing aspects of agriculture, and the students are as equally enthusiastic about the program.

Latara, a grade 11 student, tells us she wasn’t too sure about agriculture when she first joined the program.

Parris and the hardworking students made sure we didn’t leave before getting our own samples of their eggs.

If you want your own sample or to find out how you can support their agricultural program, you can reach out to the school at 325-6491.
