EGYPT – Egyptologists have uncovered pharaonic tombs that have been sealed for 4,300 years in Egypt.

The director of an excavation team working at the site 20km South of Cairo says inside one of the tombs was a mummy, found at the bottom of a 15-metre shaft in a recently uncovered group of fifth and sixth dynasty tombs near the step pyramid of Saqqara.

Among other tombs found at the site was one belonging to an inspector of officials, supervisor of nobles and priest during the reign of unas.

Excavators say another tomb belonged to Meri, the “keeper of the secrets and assistant to the great leader of the palace”.
