GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Carmine and Melanie Ciccolella, residents of the Deadman’s Reef community in Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama are grappling with the loss of everything they owned.

Melanie recalls how they first learned of the fire while resting, a photo sent to their phone showed thick smoke in the area of home.

Firefighters, along with workers from the Grand Bahama Power Company went to the scene on Sunday, January 19th where they found the three-bedroom, one-bath stone structure fully engulfed in flames.

Despite their efforts, the house was completely destroyed.

Their son, Christian Dante Ciccolella, has been remanded to the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre for treatment and evaluation following an arson charge in connection to the incident.

The couple says their home is gone, along with nearly all their belongings. The only items they managed to save were their passports and driver’s licenses.

The couple says they’ve been overwhelmed by the love and support of the community, friends have even started a GoFundMe page to assist them during this difficult time,
but rebuilding their lives won’t be easy.

This as their home was uninsured following the devastation of Hurricane Dorian.
