Grand Bahama Residents React To Sawyer’s Fresh Market Temporary Closure

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – On December 27th, Sawyer’s Fresh Market’s acknowledged that they are facing temporary challenges which is requiring them to scale back operations to reposition for the future on their social media platforms.

As a result, Sawyer’s Fresh Market has temporarily closed its Lucaya store and distribution warehouse.

Company officials describe this as a strategic move aimed at focusing resources on their Oak Street location, their original food store which opened more than a decade ago.

During this transition, some team members have been furloughed but store officials say the goal is to rehire them once the process is complete.

Grand Bahama resident Yolanda Hanna is disappointed by the news, however she says the situation isn’t uncommon in Grand Bahama.

Back in October 2024, Our News reported on empty shelves at Sawyer’s Fresh Market in Freeport, following the construction of a third location on Paradise Island.

When our team visited the Freeport store back then, we found a sign apologizing for stock shortages, attributing the issue to supply challenges.

The statement also explained that the recent expansion to Nassau was part of a long-term vision, stressing that Freeport remained a top priority.

At the time, several residents expressed their disappointment at the ongoing issues with stock at Sawyer’s Fresh Market.

However, fast forward to today, Hanna says it is her hope that there is quick resolution to the issues.

Grand Bahama business owner Jarreth Rolle and Pamela Seymour say they too are optimistic about the future of the company.
