NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Haitian-American man who was caught with a gun in his carry-on luggage can avoid 18 months behind bars if he pays a $10,000 fine.

Miami resident John Felix pleaded guilty to possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.

Felix was arrested at the Lynden Pindling International Airport on May 3 after at the security check point before he boarded a flight to Haiti.

Felix bought the Heritage Rough Rider .23 revolver and 50 rounds of ammunition legally in Florida. However, he failed to declare the gun and ammunition before he boarded his flight.
