NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Supreme Court judge has rejected submissions that a 41-year-old armed robber with a medical condition and mental health issues is entitled to a minimal sentence.

Before handing down a 17-year sentence, Justice Guillimina Archer-Minns noted that other inmates with similar diagnoses were able to receive treatment behind nars and lead relatively normal lives.

On November 30, 2023, the man robbed a woman of her handbag as she waited at a bus stop on Cowpen and Spikenard Roads.

Men in the area pursued the assailant and detained him until the police arrived.

It was later discovered that the “gun” that he had pulled on the woman was a glue gun.

The judge noted that the man had lived a life of criminality before he was convicted of his most recent offense.
