NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An officer-involved shooting that ended the life of Defence Force Officer Rodney Adderley was justified, a coroner’s jury decided Wednesday.

On January 10, 2022, officers responded to a call about a suspicious car parked in a vacant lot on Dunmore Avenue in Chippingham.

When officers arrived, they approached the car and ordered the driver to come out.

Adderley eventually exited his Mazda Demio and was searched.

Body camera footage showed when Adderley reached for the officer’s weapon.

The officer retreated and ordered Adderley to get back, but he kept advancing towards Corporal 3551 Rashad Pratt, putting him in fear.

Pratt shot him dead.

It emerged during the hearing that Adderley had a history of mental illness.
