Local Designer Heads to N.Y. Fashion Week

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A local fashion designer is taking his talents to the Big Apple, but how did he get started in the fashion industry?

Megan Shepherd sat down with Kevin Evans who shares how he turned his dreams into a reality.

It all started with blockbuster movie, ‘The Matrix’, 17 years ago.

After finding inspiration in the full length coats of the characters, designer Kevin Evans says he immediately bought a sketch pad and the rest was history.

Evans says it was during a photoshoot when he discovered and unveiled his signature style.

The 41-year-old says while he is inspired by some of the big names in the industry, he finds his biggest inspirations in nature.

Evans has been part of the Islands of the World Fashion Week (IWFW) and Miami Fashion Week, where he placed among the top three designers.

He also made his mark at Los Angeles Fashion Week.

Evans says he was afforded the opportunity to design pieces for boxers, as part of the Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Team, however, he says his dream job is to design for Tyler Perry.

Challenges should be expected, Evans says, but the key is to keep pushing toward your goals.
