Local Fisherman Finds Neighbour’s Body in West End Waters

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – West End resident and fisherman Derek Darville Sr. made the unfortunate discovery early Sunday morning on a man’s body in waters in West End.

Darville told Our News he spotted the body while out fishing, initially mistaking it for a tire. 

Upon recognizing the man as a neighbor, he says he immediately contacted authorities.

Police told us they received reports around 9:30 a.m. of a man found unresponsive in the water near a local church. A medical team pronounced him dead at the scene.

When Our News arrived at the scene, individuals believed to be family members were gathered nearby.

Press Liaison Officer Superintendent Stephen Rolle told Our News an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.

Family members devastated by the news. 

Lawrence Laing, who identified himself as the victim’s brother says he was shocked to hear about his sibling’s passing. He says the loss is indescribable.

He also shared how much his brother loved the water.

As for Darville, he says the loss will be deeply felt within the community.
