Marines on High Alert With Rising Tensions in the Region

NASSAU , THE BAHAMAS – The Royal Bahamas Defense Force is on high alert, but this time not just for the illegal poaching, but because tensions are now on the rise again.

Our marines are also monitoring the geo-political fall out in Venezuela and Cuba that could push thousands of migrants into our territory.

The Royal Bahamas Defense Force is on high alert with he political and economic situations in Venezuela and nearby.

Cuba could lead to a migrant influx, this way.

In early January U.S. Military launched an attack on Venezuela, kidnapping President Maduro and his wife.

Dozens were killed, including 32 Cuban bodyguards.

The U.S. also prevented oil shipments from reaching Cuba, worsening a decades old energy shortage – brought by the U.S Embargo.

Speaking on the sidelines of a parade passing Wednesday, Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxey gave context to the high alert.

“And we know that in the aftermath of certain hurricanes certain power outages in Cuba, we start to see mass migration and those persons move towards the Bahama banks, Anguilla cays and so we are position in our fleet are force in that area in case we start to see migration that we anticipate may happen because of what happened in Venezuela and that will affect Cuba going down the road in a couple of weeks”

From one geo-political crisis to the next, the force is preparing it’s third deployment to Haiti in support of the gang suppression force.

Previously known as the Multi-National Security Support mission, which was founded as an international police and military force to help Haiti’s government fight wide spread violence.

“They are still operating from the airport in Port Au Prince and they will be returning home around the 27th or the 28th. They are being recalled as the MSSM transition into the gang suppression force and we will be sending new troops for that that troop that is in Haiti now those officers and marines would completed the time and I think they will be around the 27th 28th of February “

What will their role be?

“But that is something that have to be determined by the National Security Council. The council is head by the prime minister and the minister and they are waking that out. We are doing the training on the base so that we can have a force ready whenever they say that they need us to deploy it. We’ll be ready to deploy and what role that we are deployed that is up to the National Security Council. I am ensuring that the troop is ready to deploy.”
