UNITED STATES – Before running through the gauntlet of the SEC, Coach Yo and Ole Miss looked to get back in the win column at home.

No. 15/17 Ole Miss closed its non-conference schedule with a 64–44 win over Alcorn State Sunday afternoon at the SJB Pavilion in Oxford.

With the victory, the Rebels improved to 13–2, entering SEC play with their most non-conference wins since 2000.

Ole Miss also finished undefeated at home in non-conference play, going 7–0 at the SJB Pavilion for the fourth time under Coach Yo.

The Rebels now turn their attention to SEC action, opening league play on New Year’s Day against Georgia in Oxford.

NBA

It was mixed results for Bahamians in the NBA on Sunday night.

In Los Angeles, the Lakers cruised past the Sacramento Kings 125–101, with Deandre Ayton turning in another solid performance. He finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds, recording his 12th double-double of the season.

Ayton is now averaging 15 points and nine rebounds per game on the year.

In Oklahoma City, it was a tougher night for Philadelphia.

The 76ers fell to the Thunder 129–104, as VJ Edgecombe scored 10 points but was limited to 3-of-16 shooting by the league’s top-ranked defense.

Despite the loss, Edgecombe continues one of the strongest rookie campaigns in the NBA, averaging 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game this season.

Swimming

Nigel Forbes is already setting the tone for what could be a breakout year at TCU.

The junior was named Big 12 Men’s Swimmer of the Week, earning the first conference weekly honor of his collegiate career.

Forbes starred against Oklahoma Christian, winning two individual events and helping TCU to a podium relay finish.

He opened the meet with a victory in the 50-yard butterfly, touching first in 22.05 seconds, then followed with a win in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.10 seconds.

Forbes closed the meet as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay, which placed third in 1:26.24, with Forbes posting a 20.98 leadoff split.

Individually, Forbes ranks among the top swimmers in TCU history, sitting third all-time in both the 100-yard butterflyand 100-yard backstrokesixth all-time in the 50-yard freestyle, and eighth all-time in the 100-yard freestyle, along with multiple top-10 program marks in longer events.

Last season, he earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors in the 200-yard backstroke.
