Minister “Uncertain” About Age Requirement

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Some changes will have to be made to the Prospect Ridge Development for young professionals, according to Minister of Transport and Housing Jobeth Coleby-Davis, who says she is not sure if the current age requirement will remain.

Minister of Transport and Housing Jobeth Coleby-Davis says she is uncertain about whether to do away with the age requirement on the Prospect Ridge development for young professionals, telling reporters that the development is still under review.

While acknowledging that changes will be made, Coleby-Davis says she realizes it is a popular program with young people and has had many of them reaching out to her.

Currently the development is open to applicants between the ages of 18 and 45.

Coleby-Davis says the government’s priority when it comes to housing is affordable housing, and she admits that the Prospect Ridge development was geared towards a different sector of society. The question now as she reviews the plans is whether it meets government’s criteria.

The Minnis administration opened the application process for the service lots for young professionals in the Prospect Ridge community back in July.

The program is open to first time homeowners, and officials reported receiving 1500 applications for just 300 lots. With the program under review, and changes “definitely” needed, Coleby-Davis says a new program will be fully laid out.
