GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – There’s a new police chief at the helm for Grand Bahama and the Northern Bahamas.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Theophilus Cunningham, set to retire, officially handing over the post to Assistant Commissioner of Police BK Bonamy Jr. at the Gerald Bartlett Police Headquarters in Grand Bahama Thursday morning.

Bonamy is a veteran officer who has been a part of the force since 1983. He’s described as one who brings a valuable contribution to the organization.

The new police chief says it’s an honor and privilege to be back in Grand Bahama after leaving some 19 years ago as an acting inspector.

He says crime in Grand Bahama may be low but he’s concerned about Abaco and Bimini as they have seen an influx in drugs, human smuggling and trafficking.

ACP Bonamy thanks officers in Grand Bahama for the warm welcome.

To the public, he says he and his team are there to serve with respect.
