New Work Permits On Hold, Minister Says

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The government has stopped issuing new work permits, according to Immigration Minister Keith Bell who says talks are underway to revamp the process.

Bell explaining on average, 15,000 work permits are approved each year out of the more than 30,000 applications that are submitted.

In January, Bell announced a hold on work permits for Haitian nationals amid ongoing economic and political unrest there.

On Friday, Bell said The Bahamas reserves the right to determine who will be allowed to enter the country.
