NIGERIA – The lawyer for a 24-year-old Nigerian student alleges the First Lady ordered security operatives to detain a student and also supervised his beating at the country’s presidential villa.

The student was detained by police over a tweet he posted on June 8 that contained what prosecutors said were defamatory remarks about the president’s wife Aisha Bihari.

A defamation lawsuit brought against the student has since been dropped.
