CAT ISLAND , BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis, officially threw his hat in the ring, becoming his party’s candidate for Cat Island, Rum Cay, and San Salvador.
The Prime Minister and his family traveled to Cat Island to complete the nomination process, while challengers from the Free National Movement and the Coalition of Independents also stepped into the race.
At 8:59 on Thursday morning, Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Cat Island, Rum Cay, and San Salvador, Philip Davis, made his way on foot to the island administrator’s office to officially enter the race, seeking to represent the constituency for a sixth consecutive term.
First elected from 1992 to 1997 and returning to the seat in May 2002, Davis has held the constituency ever since.
THe expressed gratitude and his desire to continue serving the people for a sixth consecutive term.

“I’m exhilarated. I am taking another step to be elected to Parliament. I am very grateful to the people who have brought me to this place that I am today, and I’m thrilled to be nominated here in Cat Island.”
Davis was backed by his wife, children, and grandchildren, along with dozens of party supporters who made their support clear.
After completing his nomination, the incumbent spent time with residents at a local restaurant, mixing and mingling.
On the menu was Popeyes chicken, flown in from Nassau.
During his time with constituents, Davis said he is looking forward to continuing the progress already underway.

“What you’re seeing is what’s happening. If you’ve been moving around, you’ll see the airport development, new facilities opening shortly, improvements to roads, and infrastructure being installed for the first time in some areas.”
The Prime Minister is being challenged by Free National Movement candidate Mike Holmes and Coalition of Independents candidate Donna McKay.
We spoke to Holmes about his plans for the area if he is elected to office.

“That’s only one step, you know, and the election is ongoing. We want to empower our people by bringing economic stimulus here and putting financial benefits into their pockets.”
However, things did not go as smoothly for Coalition of Independents candidate Donna McKay, according to returning officer Gilbert Kemp.

“Unfortunately, not all of her documents were in order, so we had to excuse her temporarily. If you are nominating, the persons signing and vouching for you must be on the constituency register. Some of her supporters were not, so she had to go outside and find eligible persons to sign for her.”
