NASSAU, BAHAMAS -Four months into the new year, the police commissioner has released crime statistics for 2023.

It revealed that crime is down overall.

That’s a 14 percent decrease according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s crime statists for 2023. 

Of the 110 murders, Fernander says 72 of them were solved; that translates to a 65% solvency rate.

Fernander also revealing a large number of assailants were on bail.

Fernander also revealing a 21% decrease in serious crimes, a 26% drop in crime against the person, and a 19% drop in property crimes for the year 2023 when compared to 2022.

There were 368 armed robberies compared to 568 in 2022. The weapon of choice is powered riffles.

Fernander recently called for stiffer penalties for those convicted of gun trafficking.
