THE BAHAMAS – A rising star in the prep basketball world, Jonathan “JJ” Watts has officially committed to the Bahamas National Basketball Team Program.

Watts, a 6‑7 forward, currently plays at Riviera Prep in Miami after starring at Olympia High School.

He’s a class of 2027 prospect, ranked among ESPN’s top 60 players nationwide, a four‑star recruit, and one of Florida’s top talents in his class – a high-major division I prospect.

With his size and skill he already has an offer from Florida State, and more are expected to come as the season continues.

Watts is the grandson of former NFL cornerback Mike Bass, who after his career with the Washington Commanders, moved to Grand Bahama, where he lived for nearly two decades, coached local football, and helped grow athletics in the community.

Watts could become the latest rising star poised to carry the Bahamian flag on the international stage.

Mingoes Fall In Five-set Thriller to Ballers

The University of the Bahamas (UB) Mingoes Women’s Volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker Monday night.

The Mingoes fell 3-2 in five sets to the Ballers in the New Providence Volleyball Association action at the D.W Davis gym, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17, 24-26, and 15-13.

In the final set, UB fought back from behind multiple times, tied at 11-11 on a soft touch from Garinique Hollingsworth, but eventually fell 15-13.

Assistant Head Coach Shanyhah Bowe praised her team’s defense, saying hustle plays and relentless effort kept them in contention throughout the match.

With the loss, the Mingoes now hold a 5-4 record but remain on track for the playoffs.

They look to rebound in a tough matchup against the Lady Warhawks on Sunday, February 1.
