NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Celebrations filled the air on Friday as Royal Caribbean hosted its community day, a special event designed to honor the many people and organizations who are helping to make the Royal Beach Club a reality.

Phillip Simon – President, Royal Caribbean Group Bahamas

“We want to celebrate, to celebrate the journey that has been the Royal Beach Club. It’s been a long time coming, as you can see.

“It’s an excellent product. We’d like to say it’s a beautiful partnership, not just with the government of Bahamas, but also with the people of The Bahamas.”

The event brought together government, business leaders, community organizations and other key stakeholders, who helped to make this multi-million dollar project what it is today.

“We took this opportunity to invite all of them, and not just those who would have built and constructed the beach club, but also to our partners within the community.”

“And so we’ve got, you know, organizations like the chamber commerce, a small business development center [and] of course, governments. A lot of them are marching today, but of course, they’re invited, and of course, a couple of embassies.”

As the beach club operations head into the summer months, interest is growing from Bahamians.

Its the kind of business the company hopes to see more of heading into the warmer months when Bahamians are more inclined to head to the beaches.

“Well the numbers growing are obviously beautiful. We opened around Easter as you said, but the numbers have been steadily growing so now we’re into the hundreds. And of course, obviously, we’re a large site and we can accommodate anywhere from 3,500, 4,000 people.”

Even though there is still a lot of anticipation over the company’s initial public share offering (IPO), they are taking a more measured approach to ensure the timing is right.

“Man, that’s coming. And so, you know, we’ve said it before. We’ve pushed that towards the end of the year, because what we want to do, obviously, is to operate in partnership with the government, in partnership with our vendors so that we have a good understanding, so that when we get to the IPO, the numbers are reflective of the experience thus far.”

Royal Caribbean says the focus remains on delivering a world class experience while continuing to build strong relationships with local businesses, vendors and the wider Bahamian community.
