BLACKBEARD’S CAY, BAHAMAS – The search for the bodies of victims from Sunday’s tragedy at sea continues, as the Royal Bahamas Defence Force reveals the search area has widened from Blackbeard’s Cay off New Providence, to the Berry Islands.

Commander William Sturrup, the Search & Rescue Coordinator from the RBDF explains the search has been challenging due to sea conditions, as officers have to consider a number of factors that may impact the chance of survival at sea.

It has been nearly 48-hours since the 30-foot boat carrying an estimated 50-60 passengers left western New Providence, early Sunday morning. Sturrup says while in search and recovery mode, rescue teams evaluate whether the passengers may have been wearing life vests, if they had the ability to swim, and the chances of surviving without food or water in the elements.

Sturrup says RBDF officers have not found any additional bodies or debris as they continued their search on Monday.
