NASSAU, BAHAMAS – “ My training set in and I just did what I had to do. I was in the right place, at the right time to do the right thing,” says Arnold Nesbitt – Police Officer

On January 24th, while driving along Sir Milo Butler Highway, Sergeant 3506 Arnold Nesbitt witnessed a horrific accident involving Marine Seaman Yashua Cox.

With traffic rushing around them, Officer Nesbitt’s quick thinking and decisive actions made all the difference that day.

He shielded the young man with his car, helping him avoid being hit again by oncoming traffic.

“ I spoke with him. He was bleeding very heavily and he stated that he is, he don’t think he would make it. Called his mom and he began to pray. And I told him that he will make it, so long as he pray and ask God to, to save his life,” says Nesbitt

But Nesbitt didn’t stop with shielding Yashua from traffic. He called Yashua’s mother, Nova Cox.

“ The young man was so calm and then he said, he said to me, he said, um, um, your son says to tell you that he loves you and that he don’t know if he can make it. But um, he don’t know if he can make it and so he wants you to know how much he loves you,” Says Nova Adderly Cox – Mother

But it was the professionalism of the officer that made the moment bearable.

“ He just took policing to another level. I understand he’s a prosecutor. You would have never known that he wasn’t working in a police station. Because he came there and he, he did policing. He did policing. And I, I was, he impressed me,” says Nova Adderly Cox – Mother

“He wanted to do the course last year, but he failed the run by a couple seconds. He did everything else perfect, but he failed the run and so he was feeling himself back up to, to pass,” says Cox

Despite multiple injuries, including severe lacerations and trauma, Yashua did not suffer a single broken bone.

A miracle his mother attributes to divine intervention.
