NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The early morning silence shattered by the sound of destruction. The government keeping its word as the unregulated community in the Kool Acres Area was demolished this morning.

Our News team was first on scene around 7 am where heavy machinery could be seen knocking down frail wooden structures that once housed individuals.

The intent was to demolish all of the shantytown, but a fire destroyed 80 percent of the structures on the approximate 6 acres of land Saturday changing those plans.

On arrival, law enforcement was visible comprising of Police, Defense Force, and Immigration Officers.

Police say that in addition to 30 undocumented immigrants being brought in, arrests were made in connection with serious crimes.

Other entities such as the United States Embassy and Animal Control were on site conducting assessments and taking in animals left behind.
