GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The Sir Charles Hayward Public Library has long been a cornerstone of the Freeport community, however this library is more than just a place for books, in a step toward modernization, the library has recently partnered with the University of the Bahamas Northern campus library.

Together they’ve been working on digitizing news archives and important historical documents.

UB North’s librarian Juliet Callender says the information can be useful for students and historians.

The digitization project is a major undertaking, with plans to hire a full-time staff member, who Callender says will help complete it within two years.

Given the project’s scale, she says they’ve sought additional funding from both private and public organizations, as resources are crucial to its progress.
