NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Minister of Education, Glenys Hanna Martin, recently responded to an alleged incident in Bimini, where parents say an officer beat several students, leaving them bruised about the body.

Hanna Martin told the media that it is time for a conversation on corporal punishment.

Minister of Social Services and Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, Obie Wilchcombe, is also weighing in.

The minister says there are studies that show corporal punishment actually encourages negative behaviour rather than curbing it.
