NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Residents of Star Estates in Eastern New Providence are expressing frustration over an ongoing sewage issue that has persisted since December. Concerned locals contacted Our News, saying the situation has been ignored by authorities for too long.
Brenton Rolle, the President of the Star Estates Association, spoke about the situation, noting that the issue has been recurring for months.

“Extremely heavy, I made a report to the police station for some assistance. We’ve reached out to different agencies. It was stopped at one point, started again for another two or three months or so. Since then, we’ve been trying to get someone to come out to deal with this.”
Health concerns are a major issue for Rolle, who is worried about the potential risks posed by the sewage.

“Well, I hope you can hurry and move because you’re talking about sewer—any type of germs, airborne splashes. You could be driving through, your car windows down, and you get splashed unknown to you. It’s sewer water on the ground.”
The situation has led to significant frustration, with Rolle recalling past efforts to block the seepage.

“There was once a juice company in the building, there was overflow from that same water system. I have used foam from the cam spray foam to block the seepage from that property. As the foam wore out, it continued to flow.”
Rolle claims that environmental officials have visited the site before, but the problem still persists. He reached out to State Minister for the Environment Zane Lightbourne, who also serves as MP for the area. Lightbourne confirmed that he alerted officials at the Water and Sewerage Corporation and plans to follow up on the situation.
However, for Rolle and other residents, the situation is taking too long to resolve.

“Well, I’m quite sure the powers that be will see and realize we’re serious about getting some assistance with this. We don’t know who the property owners are. If we can get some assistance, I could offer my services to resolve this if someone will reach out. But we do not know who to contact, but it is a vexing issue.”
