NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As part of the Road to 50 Years of Independence for The Bahamas, Friday, May 5th will be Jubilee Day.

While its focus is on schools showing national pride, the day will end with a production near the Southern Recreational Grounds, and work is already underway.

Fifteen Bahamian high schoolers have been commissioned to paint the exterior of what was once the Market Street City Market, across the street from the historic southern recreational grounds.

Kendranique Ferguson and Kaylen Murphy, are students hard at work on the mural, and share what the opportunity means to them and explain their work.

It’s all part of the Independence Celebrations and part of the preparations for Friday’s Jubilee Day but it’s not limited to school children, she urges corporate Bahamas to show support by wearing flag colors on Friday.

The evening event starts with a Cultural Village opening at 4pm includes a show showing the country’s journey at 7pm. Miller-Brice says she hopes the event’s free entry will encourage larger crowds.
