GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – A somber moment in time for survivors of Dorian as we continue to memorialize the souls lost following its disastrous landfall. Donovan Bowe has been living in High Rock his entire life.

In 2019, the now Former Chief Councilor for East Grand Bahama, says he was among those encouraging residents to evacuate, while he stayed behind.

He says although several persons called warning him to leave, he initially brushed off the idea.

It was that decision that possibly saved his life, as he was one of the last persons to leave the community.

Bowe says immediately after Dorian, the roads were impassable but days later he saw what was was left of his home.

While he survived Dorian, his uncle did not as one of his uncles perished in the storm and others he knew well from their tight knit community.

Three years later, he says progress has been slow but the community remains east end strong.
