NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The man police believe is responsible for chopping and killing another man with an axe was shot and killed by responding police officers, Sunday evening.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings briefed media on the scene of the crime at Kenilworth Street, off Mount Royal Avenue.

Skippings says police were responding to a call that two men were involved in an altercation, and one of the men had been chopped to the upper body.

When police arrived, reports are they met a man armed with an axe standing over another man, attempting to chop him a second time. That’s when police say the man with the axe was fatally shot.

“There is no escaping conflict but there are measures that can be taken to prevent it from escalating,” Skippings says, encouraging members of the public to seek help to resolve conflicts.

“Stop and think before you act.”
