NASSAU, BAHAMAS – April is recognized as earth month, and while it’s great to participate in an Earth Day clean-up, here are some things you can try all month long to be a little more environmentally conscious in the next few weeks.

The theme for Earth Day 2024 is “Planet vs. Plastics” highlighting earthday.org’s demands for a 60 percent reduction in plastic production by 2040.

Take stock of the plastic items in your every day life that could be replaced with stainless steel or biodegradable alternatives.

Organize a carpool schedule with friends or people in your office.

Start a community garden with friends, not only do you get to skip the high prices in grocery stores, but you can cut down on contributing to the shipping emissions that come from bringing in produce that can be grown locally.

Plant a tree this weekend! Trees not only capture carbon, they support pollinators, cool nearby spaces, and improve air quality.

Try composting! All you have to do is save the scraps from produce you’re already consuming, and it can have a second life helping grow food for you from your own garden.

If everything else seems like too much work, you can always show your support by donating to a local environmental organization’s efforts or volunteer to help on a project in earth month.
