MARTINIQUE – When it mattered most, Team Bahamas took over the pool, turning a slim final-day lead into a historic finish.

Team Bahamas secured its eighth consecutive title in the final session of the 39th CARIFTA swimming championships at the Pierre Samot Community Aquatics Center in Martinique.

The team finished with 795 points and 55 medals.

The high point winner of the meet was Christon Joseph, who won 10 medals, including 7 gold.

The team captains reflected on the team continuing the tradition of CARIFTA dominance.

CARIFTA Track and Field

Team Bahamas ended their time in Grenada with the 4x400m relays, and for the U20 girls it was a chance at redemption.

Syrmiah Crawley, Kei-Marie Hanna, Saige Demeritte and Alexis Roberts won silver in 3:37.92, but the event took on additional meaning after several miscues early in the meet.

Crawley, on pace for a spot on the medal podium clipped the final hurdle in the 400m, while Roberts was a member of the mixed 4x400m team that was disqualified after initially winning bronze.

Track and Field

Bahamian Olympic champions, Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Steven Gardiner were in action in the 200m over the weekend at the Pepsi Florida relays in Gainesville, Florida.

Miller-Uibo headlined the performances, winning the women’s Olympic development race in 22.44 seconds.

The run marked her fastest time since 2022.

Meanwhile, Gardiner finishing third in the men’s event in 20.46 seconds.
