GRAND BAHAMA – Allegations surrounding a government-supported nursing program at a tertiary institution in Grand Bahama have sparked debate on social media, with some participants questioning whether certain expectations of the program have been met.

Tonight we hear from the founder of the institution and students.

Our Denielle Miller, reports.

Concerns about the licensed practical nursing program at Terreve University College were recently raised in a social media post, with the author alleging a lack of transparency and unfulfilled commitments.

The program, which was initiated through a partnership with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and launched in 2025, was designed to help address the nation’s nursing shortage. Participants were offered assistance with tuition and training costs.

The social media poster, who claimed to be a student in the program, alleged that some of the financial expectations associated with the initiative have not been met.

Those claims, however, are being disputed by Terreve University College Founder Terrance Archer, who maintains that the Ministry of Health and Wellness has met and in some instances exceeded the commitments outlined when the program was established.

“At the time it did happen cuz he delivered on that I think they were getting in the first instance six hundred dollars and I was made to understand now they’re getting a thousand dollars.” – Terrance Archer

Students Jessica Ferguson and Raymond Simonzne Jr. also pushed back against the allegations made online.

“All cost were told to us from the beginning we will have certain fees to be paid. Is it tough yea, some of us try our best to pool resources together. At the end of the day were adults were suppose to be able to take care of our responsibilities.” – Raymond Simonzne Jr.
