As I See It

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Shane Gibson, the vibrant, kick-butt unionist who rose to political glory only to be slammed with several scandals, says he is up to running in politics again.

After the scandals, Gibson rose to political glory again, only to be slapped down, this time with handcuffs and shackles –  a stupid “stunt” that ended up costing the Bahamian people millions of dollars.

Now! Now! Before you get your breeches in a bunch about Gibson running again, be reminded that he is said to be partially responsible for the PLP’s win at the polls in 2021. With that said, he obviously knows how to pull off a win.

When the news about Gibson’s new political intentions broke, I was curious because a constituency of interest was named – MICAL. That curiosity led me to a mission to dig a little.

Shane Gibson, Basil McIntosh, Vaughn Jones

Eavesdropping on a MICAL Constituency meeting, it was clear the Member of Parliament for the area, was very nervous when he addressed his constituents via Zoom.

He addressed rumors of his departure as MP in 2026 by saying, “Well I was asked about that and my answer was ‘I do not know’. Nobody knows what the future holds. And so, for that question to be asked of me … what else can I say.

“That answer was because it was too early to say otherwise. With only one year in office … What the future holds? We just don’t know. I can tell MICAL they will know what my decision will be. Now is not the time for it.”

With that said the MP went on to spew out the usual political promises and the meeting got trés boring until a few MICAL residents expressed their dismay with the sad state of their islands with no apparent resolve.

Gibson is eyeing MICAL for a reason. My intel tells me the current MP is not offering himself again and Gibson will be the PLP’s candidate for the 2026 election. And, after seeing and hearing the current MP, I realize he is not the man for the job.

Flipping to the red side of things, my intel is telling me of murmurs of mortician Vaughn Jones being the FNM candidate for 2026 as the former FNM MP is down for the “count” – saw what I did there?

This will definitely be a movie to watch. Vaughn Jones has ties to the area; he is a good, decent Mason, but Shane Gibson is a very skilled and lethal politician. Well, that’s how I see it, anyway.
