NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On this day in Bahamian history, The Bahamas hosted the 42nd CARIFTA Games at the new, state-of-the-art $30-million Thomas A Robinson National Stadium, in 2013.

It was the 7th time The Bahamas hosted the regional games. Then Prime Minister Perry Christie expressing pride when he officially opened the games, where several Bahamian athletes advanced to the finals.


In 2014 many taxpayers were still on the fence about the introduction of value added tax saying Bahamians were just not ready.

The tax eventually took effect the following year, in 2015.


On this day in 2015, Donna Vasyli, the wife of noted Australian podiatrist Dr. Philip Vasyli, was charged with his murder.

He was found facedown in a pool of blood, inside the guest house kitchen at the couple’s home in Old Fort Bay by their gardener.

His wife, who was tried twice for the crime was acquitted on March 10, 2023.


In 2015, Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival organizers announced world renown Soca artist Machel Montano as the headlining act.


In 2016, Monique Gomez was appointed senator for the then Opposition Free National Movement.

In making the appointment then opposition leader Dr. Hubert Minnis said he was confident she would serve the nation with distinction.


In 2021 Bahamians, while still under a state of emergency, witnessed the arrival of the first batch of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX facility.

Their arrival coincided with ongoing political campaigning that led to controversy over social distancing protocols, which then Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis defended.
