NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Three armed robbery suspects who were arrested by police following a high-speed chase have been charged.

Cleophus Smith, Michael Pratt and Roberto Moxey were arrested in Jubilee Gardens on March 17, shortly after prosecutors say they robbed a woman of a deposit bag containing $1,800 outside a bank in Westridge.

Police on patrol spotted the Suzuki XL SUV that the suspects were traveling in and a chase ensued.

The men crashed the vehicle during the police pursuit and they allegedly shot at the officers in a bid to escape. Moxey was shot when the police officers returned fire.

The police officer  allegedly found two guns and 19 rounds of 9mm ammunition as well as the stolen cash.

Earlier that day, prosecutors say the men robbed Scott Jupp of the white SUV that was allegedly used in the other robbery.

Pratt alone is accused of robbing Brendan Ginns of $12,000 on February 3.

The men were not required to enter pleas to the charges when they appeared before Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr.

They were denied bail and will return to court on May 30 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.

Both Pratt and Smith were on bail for armed robbery when prosecutors allege that they reoffended.
