NASSAU, BAHAMAS – ‘I’m going to Haiti’ was the response I got from outgoing U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Usha Pitts when I asked her what’s next.

Over the last few weeks gangs have seized control of the streets in Haiti in strong opposition to former President Ariel Henry.

Henry has since resigned under the pressures, and a transitional council will be formed as the first step to restoring democracy to Haiti.

And the diplomat, who has a 26-year career, is not afraid of what’s ahead.

She plans to maintain the personal and professional relationships she built here in The Bahamas to assist her work in Haiti.

Pitts also shared more about her tenure in The Bahamas. I’ll have more in a later report.
