UNITED STATES – The U.S. Health Department says it’s phasing out MRNA vaccine development under its biomedical research agency.

The move announced this week cancels a major contract with Moderna for a human bird flu vaccine and rejects proposals from Pfizer, Sanofi, and others.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a longtime vaccine skeptic, says current vaccines don’t effectively prevent respiratory infections like covid and the flu, though he provided no supporting data.

The agency says it’s shifting investment to broader, mutation-resistant vaccine platforms.
