UGANDA – Ugandan Olympic marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei has died after being doused in petrol and set on fire by her boyfriend in Kenya, officials confirmed on Thursday.
UGANDA – Ugandan Olympic marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei has died after being doused in petrol and set on fire by her boyfriend in Kenya, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The thirty-three year-old, who finished 44th in the Paris Olympics, suffered burns to over 75% of her body in the September 1 attack. This marks the third female athlete killed in kenya since 2021.
Kenyan runner Agnes Tirop was fatally stabbed in October 2021, and Bahraini athlete Damaris Mutua was found dead in April 2022. Both incidents occurred in a popular training hub for long-distance runners.
