UNITED STATES – VJ and the Sixers took down the Boston Celtics 109–100 on Saturday night in Game 7 of their first-round series to advance to the second round.

The kid from Bimini turned it up under the bright playoff lights, going for 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists when his team needed him the most.

He found the range, going 5–11 from the three-point line, giving his teammates space to operate.

Joel Embiid set the tone for the Sixers. Coming off an appendectomy just two weeks ago, he gritted his way to a 34-point, 11-rebound, 6-assist performance.

Tyrese Maxey scored 30 points to go with 11 rebounds and 7 assists, and he used his speed to get to the rim for a couple of clutch layups in the final minutes of the game to put the nail in Boston’s coffin.

Boston was playing without Jayson Tatum, but Jaylen Brown had 33 points, and Derrick White had 26, albeit on an inefficient 9–26 shooting night.

With the win, Philly is 2–10 in playoff Game Sevens on the road in the franchise’s 80-year history, with its only other win also coming in Boston in 1982.

This was also the first time in a decade a team has blown a 3–1 series lead in the NBA playoffs. The last time it happened was in the 2016 Finals, when another Bahamian, Klay Thompson, and his Golden State Warriors were upset by LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Baseball

Jazz and the Yanks won their second straight, taking down the Baltimore Orioles 9–4.

Jazz had a single and a run, and our adopted countryman Cody Bellinger hit a home run.

Coach Antoan Richardson and the Atlanta Braves beat up on the Colorado Rockies 9–1.

Matt Olson hit his second home run in back-to-back games, and Austin Riley and Drake Baldwin went yard as well.

Down in the minors, Kristian Robinson went 2–4 with a couple of singles and a couple of RBIs. His AAA Reno Aces lost 8–7 to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.
