NASSAU, BAHAMAS – VJ Edgecombe’s young basketball career already includes a stacked resume filled with accolades, but there’s still one thing that has escaped the highly touted prospect – playing for Team Bahamas.

With a historic summer for Bahamas basketball on the horizon, Edgecombe said he is excited about the possibility of finally suiting up for the senior men’s national team.

The senior men’s national team is headed to the final Olympic qualifying tournament in Spain in July 2-7.

The winner of the group will advance to the Olympic tournament in Group A alongside Australia and Canada.

Prior to that, Team Bahamas will be heading to Greece to play in a series of exhibitions at the Acropolis Aegan tournament, June 24-27.

Edgecombe heads to Baylor as a five-star recruit, McDonald’s All-American, Jordan brand all-American, New York’s Gatorade national player of the year, and a participant in the Nike Hoops Summit.

NBA

The Bahamas Basketball Federation is set to host the Jr. NBA on-court development and coaches’ clinics in The Bahamas.

Friday morning at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium, 50 athletes and 50 coaches will undergo a series of basketball development sessions and interactive training activities.

The Jr. NBA is the league’s global youth basketball program for boys and girls that teaches the fundamental skills and core values of the game.

The Jr. NBA is focused on helping grow and improve the youth basketball experience at the grassroots level for players, coaches and parents, and offers a free curriculum covering all levels of the game.

Baseball

Following a storied collegiate career, Daunte Stuart looks to make the transition to pro baseball.

Stuart was one of nine players selected to participate in the Jerry Hairston jr pro day on June 17 in phoenix arizona.

Hairston, a Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster, and 16-year MLB vet is hosting the event for the first time, showcasing the athletes through sports management agency culture 39.

Stuart’s lone year with the Memphis Tigers earned him several accolades this season, including American Athletic Conference player of the week in mid-April.

In 31 games this season he hit .350 with 12 doubles, four home runs, 29 RBI, slugged .545 with a .428 on base percentage.

Prior to Memphis, he spent four years at Northwestern State where he hit .227 with 18 home-runs, 104 rbi, and slugged .475 in 176 games.

MLB

Jazz Chisholm’s first multi-hit game of the month wasn’t enough as the last place Miami Marlins continue to struggle.

Chisholm went 2-4 with an RBI in the Marlins’ 10-4 loss to Antoan Richardson and the New York Mets last night at Citi Field.

On the season, Chisholm leads the Marlins in several offensive categories with a .250 average, 12 stolen bases, 32 rbi and is second with 9 home runs.

Tied at one game apiece, the series finale should be on the field as we speak.

Roderry Munoz gets the start for the Marlins against Luis Severino for the Mets.
