GAZA – The World Health Organization is welcoming news of a long-awaited ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages after two years of relentless conflict that has left the territory’s health system devastated.

In a statement, the WHO praised the extraordinary courage of health workers who continue to serve their communities despite overwhelming challenges.

Only 13 of 36 hospitals and just 62 of 179 primary health centers remain partially functional.

The organization says the road to recovery is immense, but it is committed to helping rebuild Gaza’s healthcare system by scaling up the delivery of medical supplies, expanding medical evacuations, and deploying more emergency medical teams.
