BIMINI, BAHAMAS – Wednesday’s wild weather which sailor Mike Manky likened to a mini tropical storm caused a stumbling block for Manky and his best friend who planned to sail through the Caribbean.

Manky says weather reports led them to anchor off the west side of Bimini where the sailboat would be sheltered from the elements but he explains things took a drastic turn.

Manky says the winds came at them from the south and the east bringing big waves of up to 32 feet. The force pulled up the anchor.

Fortunately, the sailboat didn’t flip but Manky says it left a big dent in their plans.

He says damage to the 1972 model C&C 39 sailboat could cost him up to $10,000 to fix and take up to three weeks for the job to be complete.

He says they’ve contacted several vessels for help but up to Thursday night the vessel was still on the beach.

However Manky remains optimistic.
