The move, along with resetting U.S. import taxes to match global rates, builds on his existing tariffs on China and pending measures for Canada and Mexico.
Trump says these tariffs will help level the playing field for American factories, even if it means higher prices for consumers.
Critics warn these steps could drive up inflation, invite retaliatory tariffs, and hurt U.S. jobs.
Already, steel stocks are climbing while automakers brace for higher costs.
