UNITED STATES – It’s the end of an era for Skype, as Microsoft announced Friday it is shutting down the internet calling service on May 5th, ending a two-decade run.

The company says the move streamlines its communication services as it shifts focus to Microsoft Teams.

Skype once revolutionized global calling but struggled to keep up with rivals like Zoom.

Existing users can log into teams for free, with chats and contacts migrating automatically.
