“We Exist for Those Who Can’t Help Themselves”

ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Hope Challenge took over the streets of Central Eleuthera over the weekend, hundreds coming out to run and ride for the cause, all in an effort to fight cancer.

ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Hope Challenge took over the streets of Central Eleuthera over the weekend, hundreds coming out to run and ride for the cause, all in an effort to fight cancer.

First out The Bahamas Hope Challenge gates were the cyclists, some of them, riding as little as 10 miles, others took on a 100 miles trek as far as the Glass Window Bridge back to Cocodimama Beach and back.

Then came the runners, many of them from corporate Bahamas.

The participated in either the 5k and 10k route, a few braved the marathon earlier that week.

Our News spoke to Viviane Proffitt who says this is her second year at the challenge.

There was also a ride along with the athletes.

The route taking the team through popular settlements in Eleuthera like James Cistern, Rainbow Bay, Hatchet Bay, and Gregory Town.

Along the way at different rest spots, local volunteers were present to cheer on runners, providing them with snacks and water.

Joshua Higgins has represented the country nationally in sailing, He say’s he decided to give cycling a try.

“Yeah I know it’s super super nice like I was looking forward to doing this from a couple months ago when I first found out about it, actually yeah I ride with my friend Arthur Farley, really good friend of mine we met during one of my tours to Europe as sailors and he actually battles leukemia I think he’s one of the youngest diagnosed with the age of 18 and 19 so I do this to honor him and yeah just having fun,” says Higgins.

Co-founder and director of the organization, Susan Larson, says the event takes a lot of hard work and preparation, but the results are worth it.
