BARBADOS – The Caribbean is gearing up for another heat season, with heatwaves likely starting in April, but it won’t be as extreme as 2023 and 2024, according to the Barbados-based Caribbean Climate Outlook Forum (CARICOF).

The region’s warm waters and shifting Pacific conditions are driving the trend.
April could bring high evaporation, short dry spells, and increased wildfire risk.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is expected by May in The Bahamas, Guianas, and Greater Antilles, with flooding risks rising.
Drought conditions persist in parts of the Cayman Islands, and the Eastern Caribbean, while Saharan dust could make the weather even more unpredictable.
